Frequently Asked Questions
Is my camper required to be vaccinated against Covid-19?
We recommend that all campers who are eligible to get vaccinated against Covid-19. However, we do not have a vaccination requirement for campers to attend Camp Squanto. Camp Squanto will have both vaccinated and unvaccinated campers and therefore we are using a multi-layer mitigation approach to prevent the introduction and spread of Covid-19.
Will my camper be required to wear a mask?
Face masks will be required in the following situations:
* Indoors with other pod groups such as the Dining Hall and bathrooms
* Outdoors when not physically distanced from other pod groups
What is a pod group?
In order to mitigate group exposure or spread of Covid-19, we will be dividing our campers into pod groups of 2-3 cabins resulting in groups of approximately 20 campers. Pod groups will be identified by color coded wristbands.
What are the Covid-19 testing requirements?
All campers must complete 2 tests.
The first test must be completed within 7 days prior to your camper’s arrival. This must be a PCR-based test (not an antigen test). A print out of a negative test result must be handed in at check-in.
The second test will be administered at Camp Squanto upon your camper’s arrival. Camp Squanto is covering the cost of this test. Your camper will be allowed to enter their cabin once they receive a negative test result.
(Our LIT campers who stay at camp for 14 straight days will be tested a third time after 5-7 days at camp.)
What if my child has had Covid-19 in the past 90 days?
If your child has had a positive case of Covid-19 within 90 days of their arrival to camp (but more than 14 days before arrival), then you should not have your child complete a pre-arrival test as it may likely come back positive. You will need to provide proof from a healthcare provider or testing facility that your child has tested positive more than 14 days before arrival to camp. This proof will replace the pre-arrival and onsite testing requirements.
What if my child had Covid-19 but we didn’t have him/her tested?
If you believe that your child has had a positive case of Covid-19 within 90 days of their arrival to camp, then you will need to provide proof of a positive test more than 14 days before arrival in order to bypass the negative test requirement. So, if you believe that your child will test positive, we suggest that you have them tested more than 14 days before their arrival to camp. You can use the positive test result to prove that your child has had Covid-19 and therefore should not be tested at camp.
What will meals look like?
Our meals may be served in a variety of different ways including staff-served buffet line, family style served by counselors, or “to-go” style.
What protocols are staff following related to Covid-19?
Camp Squanto staff members will be fully vaccinated. Our staff will be screened and tested just like our campers. On staff time off, our staff will limit their activities in order to reduce risk of exposure to Covid-19.
Can our entire family come to camp for drop-off or pick-up day?
We ask that each family limit the number of accompanying adults to ONE PER CAMPER.
Can we carpool with other families to travel to camp?
If you choose to carpool with other families, your campers will be in close contact with one another. In the event that one of them tested positive upon arrival, then the entire carpool would be contact traced and unable to attend camp.
What happens if my child develops symptoms of Covid-19 while at camp?
In the event that a camper develops symptoms of Covid-19 while at camp, the symptomatic camper will be removed from camp activities for a health evaluation by the Camp Nurse. If Covid-19 cannot be ruled out, then the symptomatic camper will need to go home immediately. We ask that all parents be prepared to pick up their child immediately if these situations arise. Immediately means same day. If symptoms arise late at night, then pick up would occur the next morning.
What happens if someone in my child’s pod group develops symptoms of Covid-19 while at camp?
In the event that a symptomatic camper tests positive for Covid-19, then the State of NH will contact trace other campers who have been in close contact with the camper who tested positive. These close contacts will need to go home immediately unless they are fully vaccinated. We ask that all parents be prepared to pick up their child immediately if these situations arise. Immediately means same day. If symptoms arise late at night, then pick up would occur the next morning
